Community Update & ‘A’ Team Coaches Appointed

NORTH WALES CRUSADERS have taken further strides in creating a player pathway and developing local players by confirming that the club will be entering an ‘A’ team into the North West Mens League for the 2018 season.

Community liaison officer Mark Robinson said: “I have been working really hard on creating this pathway and getting everything up and running.

“I have recently just sent the email to the governing bodies to show our interest in  the ‘A’ team entering the league structure for 2018. “

Robinson added: Myself and Conrad have been working extremely hard over the past few months and we have built links with non-rugby related community organisations and also worked hard to create a better match day experience.

“On the team front we have near enough got the ‘A’ team up and running and we are a bit further on with the North Wales Origin.

“Both teams are important to North Wales, both give a player pathway and coaching pathway to develop the game in North Wales.

“One thing that I tried to stick to was having both teams near enough as possible run and played by Welsh people so Crusaders ‘A’ team will probably run at 85% and the Origin at 80%.

“At Crusaders our main aim is development of players and staff. Next week myself and Conrad will sit down to discuss the Mini’ Crusaders, half-term camps, Crusaders Cup and the Jacqui Walker Cup.”

In addition to the community work off the field, North Wales Crusaders are also delighted to confirm the appointment of the coaching staff for the ‘A’ team.

Kris O’Neill has been appointed as head coach of the side, and he will work alongside Ian Stapleton [assistant coach] and Mark Robinson who will be the director of rugby for the ‘A’ team.

On his appointment, O’Neill said: “I’m incredibly proud and honoured to be part of the Crusaders family.

“I’d like to push the boys to reach their full potential, and believe that I can offer them the platform to achieve great things both on and off the field.”

“There will be a players meeting on Wednesday 17th January at the Queensway Stadium (18:30pm start) with all old and new players are welcome to attend.”
