Cookson Announces Retirement Following Heart Attack

NORTH WALES CRUSADERS would like to wish John Cookson the best of luck after he announced his retirement from rugby league.

Cookson announced on Twitter: “It is with great sadness that I’m retiring from rugby league following my heart attack.

“I have played at this level since 2003, so have been lucky to have been playing for so long.

“I just wish that I could have finished the season off with the boys, I will miss the Crusaders and the crack which you have when being part of a team.

“Due to matters out of my own hands it has unfortunately come to an end.

“I would like to thank everyone who has coached me and all the fans which have supported me along the way.”

Cookson joined the Crusaders in the off-season and quickly established himself within the team.

Following the Welsh sides clash with transatlantic side, Toronto Wolfpack, Cookson suffered a heart attack and was taken into Blackpool hospital.

As John continues his recovery, fans, players and staff at North Wales Crusaders would like to wish him luck and hope to see him at a game in the near future.
