Match Report: North Wales Crusaders 6-36 Featherstone Rovers

Crusaders fell to their first home defeat in 18 months with a 36-6 loss at the hands of Featherstone Rovers.

The Welsh side were missing several key players – Moulsdale, Reardon, Middlehurst and Massam a few to note – and it showed as Rovers secured what turned out to be a comfortable win.

Rovers had the majority of the possession in the first half, but Crusaders’ resolute defence ensured that the teams went in to the break level at 6-6.

However, Fev’s quality in the second half shone through as they punished Crusaders for their errors and ill discipline.

Will Sharp opened the scoring for Rovers when, after an overlap formed on the right edge, Ben Hellwell flicked out a ball to the winger to dive in at the corner.

Crusaders responded with a try through Tom Gilmore, supporting a break inside from Michael Platt, and that was how it stayed for the rest of the half.

Fev acted on their half-time team talk and took the lead within four minutes of the restart – and that proved to be the turning point in the game.

Gareth Moore hit the line on the last play and then picked out Kyle Briggs, on return from injury, who was in plenty of space to stroll through a hole in the Crusaders defence to touch down.

They improved their lead soon after through a second try from Will Sharp; a near replica of his first effort earlier on in the game.

Rovers then went in for two tries in quick succession. First, Moore collected a flick pass from Spears to dive over and then Flanagan bulldozed his way over the line from close range.

Sharp capped off a solid win for Rovers as he turned and touched down in the corner for his hat-trick try.
